Here we are at Paekakariki Beach, by the Surf Club. We had just been shown some great tips for boogie boarding. We are just about to try them out. This is the first day of our 3 day camp, 3 March, 2010. Zoe and Mark, the Surf Lifeguards told us how to be sunsmart and to to be safe in the sea. We played neat games with them too.

Rangers boat, Kapiti Island

The ranger who works for the Department of Conservation (DoC) has this boat to patrol the coast, including the Marine Reserve and to go the 5 km to Paraparaumu to get the groceries. Mana Island is off in the distance (above the white post) - we visited there in 2009.

Visit to Kapiti Island

We hope to visit Kapiti Island Nature Reserve on Monday, 3 May. The island is about 5km off the Kapiti district coast. We need really good weather or the trip will be postponed. Fingers crossed. (We had to wait until 19 May to get there - wind and waves were the problems).
